Do You Use Ceiling Fans?

August 29th, 2007

I do not recall having many ceiling fans in our homes as a child. Perhaps I am forgetting them, but I don’t think so. In each of the homes I have owned as an adult we have added ceiling fans in nearly every room. Why? The breeze of a nice ceiling fan is much more cooling and much quieter than a box fan any day, right? Not to mention the fun you can have when deciding which one to purchase. Admittedly it’s past time for a change in decor for Joshua’s bedroom. Six years ago though the airplane theme was perfect for him. We even splurged on the Fantasy Flyer fan by Hunter. I loved it and will be sad to see it go. If you are wondering whether or not you should splurge on a themed ceiling fan, I recommend you go for it!

For years Jeremy had The Baseball Fan in his room. When we redid his bedroom in January we retired that fan also. We’re on to more sophisticated and traditional styles as the kids get older, but I do not regret having treated them to the special fans when they were younger. They added an extra bit of fun to their rooms while still having functionality. That can’t be said for many of the other items we used to decorate.

Back To School Already?

August 29th, 2007

It never fails, the end of summer seems to sneak up on me. I am fortunate that my children do not return to school until after Labor Day, yet it still seems like the start of the school year came in the blink of an eye. And probably seemed even quicker to my children!

It is funny the different attitudes each of my kids have about getting back to school. Jeremy is not really excited about homework and the responsibility that will come with the school year, but is still looking forward to seeing his friends daily. I remember being the same way in high school. It was all about the social side of things; the work was just a necessary evil that you tolerated.

Josh is bummed about summer being over, but still eager to shop for supplies. He’s my “stuff boy”. Getting new things is always enjoyable for him.

Justine is excited. She doesn’t worry about the hard work that faces her this year, she is just ready to play with her friends daily. It should be interesting to see if her attitude changes after the first week. My guess is that it will.

Curbside, Community or At Your Door Delivery?

August 29th, 2007

One of the things we could not choose when building our house was the style of our mailbox. With the countless residential mailboxes available it would have been fun choosing one. As much as I like to shop online, I would probably be best choosing a large mailbox like the commercial mailboxes that are available. This would allow our carrier to completely conceal the packages; rather than leaving them on our doorstep in plain sight. Of course, such mailboxes would look horrible in front of every home in our neighborhood. Therefore I completely understand and appreciate the restrictions on our mailboxes.

When it comes to the actual location of residential mailboxes, I wonder who determines that? Some cities have them at the street, others have them at the front door and still others have the community style mailboxes. In my township we have all three. Perhaps it’s the builders choice? Who knows? Do you?

Shop Til We Drop

July 7th, 2007

Last Wednesday when Justine and I arrived in Bellingham, WA while waiting to deplane, she looked and me and said “I am ready to shop ’til I drop!”  I asked her if she brought money with her and fully expected her to say something about me being the Mommy Money Bags.  To my surprise she responded, “Yes, $1000.00!”  Suuurrrrre!   If only that were true.

Regardless, it’s pretty evident that I’ve created a bit of a shopping addict.

Buying Time

June 7th, 2007

There are many days when I wish I could buy more hours. It seems there is never enough time to get the things done today, so I can meet my goals of where I want to be in the future. Unfortunately no amount of money can buy time. Setting obtainable goals and measuring how close I am to accomplishing them at regular intervals is key to remaining focused. This also serves well so that I don’t get too focused on the daily struggles as long as I’m meeting my goals on a weekly or monthly basis. You win some and you lose some as they say … but if you win more than you lose it’ll likely be just fine.

Do you plan for the future? What to you think you’ll be doing in 3 months? 12 months? 3 years? Have you made a plan to get there?

A few clever guys have created a website where you can even send an email to yourself to be delivered at any date in the future! How neat would it be to make some goals and/or predictions and send it off to yourself only to get a surprise down the road. While your plan may have been adjusted as time passed, it would be interesting to see how closely your reality was to your prediction! Wouldn’t it?

You can check it out on Future Me!
